On Thursday, May 9, 2013, we had an open house to let other kids preview the inside of STEM club: Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math.
For science, we had a microscope that allowed us to view objects 40 times larger (although we didn’t use it). For technology, we had a showcase of the Scratch programming language. Engineering showcased an NXT robot used in our FLL team. Math had a bunch of Rubix cubes in one corner. We also invited an FTC team named Onions to show off their robot.
Before the open house, we put a bunch of posters up, hoping that a lot of kids would come knocking on the classroom door eager to participate in the open house. Sure enough, before the open house was set up, there was a lot of commotion on the class door. “Knock, knock, knock. Knock, knock, knock.” We finally opened the doors, and explained about STEM club, what we would do, and how to join it. A lot of kids had questions and ate out the cookies and pretzels. It was a success. We scheduled to have the open house end at 4:00pm, but… they stayed until 4:20PM!
