App for SidewalkHeat

Hi everyone! I’ve been working on an Android app called SidewalkHeat instead of going onto a web browser. It will still work on the web browser, but this is an extra touch to make it easier.

Here is the prototype download:

Updated version v1.1: SidewalkHeatv101.apk

Mac version:

After downloading the file, you can copy it into your Android device and use a APK installer app from the Play Store. If there are any problems, please notify me.

UPDATE (11/27/13):

I’ve made a new update (v1.1) that automatically connects to the PiProject network. We still need to do some testing on this though.

I have put the link above and here:

UPDATE (11/29/13):

I’ve made a new app for Macs. I did some testing and it works!

Regionals Competition

Hi GW STEM Club!

Our Regionals Robotics Competition was AWESOME! Our whole team was amazed at how we worked so hard to get everything done. We even took the 2nd overall team in the competition. Its gets even better……. WERE GOING TO THE STATE COMPETITION! BECAUSE OUR TEAM DID SO GOOD, WE WERE CHOSEN TO MOVE ON TO THE STATE COMPETITION. Im so proud for everyone on our team working so hard all year to make that one day AWESOME! Great job GW STEM!!!!!!!!!

Bergen Qualifying FLL Tournament

The STEM club (Team #5642) finally has gotten through the regional tournament with awesome results! Team members’ throats were hoarse at the end of the tournament by cheerleading.

First, at 9:00, we went to the project judging room and showed off our skit with our project. After all this hard work, we created a brick that heats itself with solar power. The judges were simply shocked.

Robot Design was a tremendous session. We impressed the judges with our modular design, leading us up to 1st place.

In the afternoon, after a belly-filling lunch of soup and sandwiches, we placed our robot in the robot game matches. Matches 2 and 3 were not that bad, but Match 1 was much better! Match 1 scored us over 300 points, yet we were done when the timer still had 30 seconds left! It seemed our modular design did help a lot.

It did turn out to be a great success. We got 3rd place in Robot Performance and 1st place in Robot Design!

The man who worked there showed us a windmill model and told us how a real one works. We also talked about lightbulbs and which ones were better for the environment. Then the man also told us about a machine that made water from electricity. You can learn a thing or two from this man. Four of the pictures here are solar panels the man in the pictures is the man who worked there and the silver machine was the one that made water from electricity. The man he worked there because he wanted to save the world from global warming because solar energy doesn’t burn fossil fuel and when you burn fossil fuel you produce carbon dioxide which causes global warming.

Hi everyone,

We had a very successful meeting on Sunday. For the mission team we finished a very hard section and for the project team we got some scripting done for the “skit” we are making for the competition. The highlight of the meeting was the AMAZING Tex-Mex Soup! We all loved the soup and the wraps. Thanks SO much Mrs. Baginski!!!!

At Super Green Solutions

Today (November 9, 2013) we drove to SuperGreen Solutions in Englewood to take a look at their innovations with solar power, water power, and wind power. They showed us their showroom, which contains a lot of things. A huge solar panel that generates 250 watts stands in one corner. Near the entrance, there is a unit consisting of two solar panels that are attached by hinges so you can fold them for easy transportation. A light bulb sitting on the table can power a lamp and charge a Samsung phone at the same time. You just plug that lamp into a waterproof solar panel (no, the lamp isn’t waterproof) to charge it.

Later, we showed them our innovation. Our solar heated walkway charges during sun using the solar panels. When it’s cold outside, you just turn on the heat from the comfort of your home. SuperGreen Solutions told us that this was an amazing idea and that it really would shape the future. Of course, they said we need to shrink costs, but at least we’re getting a start!.

The showroom also has other stuff. They feature LED bulbs which are brighter and more efficient. There is a water generator that filters dehumidified air into drinking water. They have more efficient water heaters, and eco insulation.
